Tallahassee, FL-December 9, 2012
Our area saw several deadly crashes this weekend.
In less than 24 hours, crashes from Gadsden to Taylor County took the lives of at least three people.
A deadly crash in Madison County took the life of a 39-year-old truck driver. It happened roughly 10 hours after a crash in Gadsden killed another person and just an hour before a man was killed along U.S. 221 in Taylor County.
Despite that, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says fatal accidents are down by two percent from 2010 to 2011. And down about 32 percent from 2005 to 2011.
But some driver say more can be done such as a ban on texting while driving.
The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says it has a plan to reduce the number of deadly crashes.
Among the proposed steps are calls for more proactive enforcement, better driver education and upgrading the department's technology.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' report goes on to say the number of deaths involving motorcyclists, bicyclists and teen drivers are all up from 2010.
