VALDOSTA, Ga. -- A robbery suspect shot and killed by a deputy outside of a Pilot gas station in Lowndes County on Tuesday has now been identified.

The suspect, 28-year-old Jim Bravis Redmond, was shot by a Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Deputy after authorities say he had a gun at the gas station.

Redmond was a suspect in an armed robbery at a Hahira Harvey's grocery store earlier in the day. The female driver of the vehicle they were in, 32-year-old Crystal Griffin Redd, told the deputy that the man was armed and hiding in the back seat, according to GBI.

GBI says that witness accounts indicate that Redmond pointed the gun at law enforcement officers before they fired at him.

Redmond was taken to South Georgia Medical Center after he was shot, but died from his injuries.

An investigation has revealed that Redmond was wanted on U.S. Military charges for desertion out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Redd was wanted out of Virginia on embezzlement charges.

No deputies were injured, but per LCSO's policy, the seven deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. Those deputies are Perry Connell, Jimmy Royals, Derrik McLeod, Robbie Norris, James Champion, Matthew Porter and Will Neel.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol also responded to the scene. GBI Trooper Brian Bass has also been placed on administrative leave.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating Tuesday's shooting at the request of the Sheriff's Office.

GBI says that the case is active and witnesses are still being interviewed.

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- A deputy with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office shot a suspect of an armed robbery at the Harvey's in Hahira on Tuesday.

Around 11:30 a.m., a white male walked into the Harvey's supermarket, appearing as if he was buying groceries.

Hahira Police says the man pulled his cart up to the employee and asked her to open a separate register, so he could be by himself.

"He presented a note to the cashier demanding all the money in the cash register", says Chief Terry Davis, with the Hahira Police.

After, the man opened his coat to show the cashier that he was armed.

The employee waited until the man left before telling her manager.

"The manager was actually outside Harvey's before, and passed the guy as he was leaving", says Chief Davis. The suspect was seen getting into a vehicle driven by a white female.

He says this is the first time Harvey's has been robbed, so no one checking out groceries even noticed.

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office received a lookout for the suspect's vehicle, which they located on I-75.

One witness described a white hatchback that pulled into a gas pump at the Pilot Travel Center across from his work.

"I just saw the cop speeding behind the car, so I thought it was a basic traffic stop", says Kelvin Wilcox, an employee at Blue Bird Truck Center. "After watching it for a while, more and more cops came and it seemed like a standoff."

He says he was too far away to see if the suspect was armed, or not.

"Cops were getting out everywhere and next thing you know, I hear gun shots. I saw the guy fall in front of the door", says Wilcox.

The LCSO says the man pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the deputies, but can't confirm if the suspect actually fired his weapon.

He was taken to South Georgia Medical Center with injuries from the gunfire. There's no word on his current condition.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, but due to the SO's policy, the deputy is placed on administrative leave.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating Tuesday's shooting.
