Romney Names Paul Ryan His Running Mate
UPDATE: NORFOLK, Va.-- August 11, 2012
Mitt Romney has introduced Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate.
At a rally in Norfolk, Va., Romney promised the Republican ticket will present "bold, specific and achievable" economic policies that would help create 12 million jobs and improve paychecks for middle-class families.
As chairman of the House Budget Committee, Ryan has put forward budget plans that would remake Medicare and cut trillions in federal spending. The Wisconsin Republican says he and Romney would eliminate the country's "debt, doubt and despair." With economic growth weak and unemployment at 8.3 percent, Ryan charged that President Barack Obama "has become part of the problem.
The Obama campaign says Romney's choice of Ryan underscores Romney's commitment to "budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy" that will place "greater burdens on the middle case and seniors." Campaign manager Jim Messina says Ryan's budget proposals would turn Medicare into a voucher system and gut education programs from "Head Start to college aid."

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has selected Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate.
The candidate made his announcement to supporters via a phone app, saying -- quote -- "Mitt's Choice for VP is Paul Ryan." The GOP ticket was set to appear together at 9 A.M. Eastern in Norfolk, Va.
Romney and Ryan are kicking off a four-day bus tour that will take them to as many states.
At 42, Ryan is a generation younger than the 65-year-old Romney.
