TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott has appointed two new members to the State Board of Education.

Scott on Thursday also reappointed one member, John Padget, a private investor and former school superintendent from Key West.

The new members are Dr. Ada Armas of Coral Gables and John Colon, a senior vice president with Wells Fargo Advisors from University Park.

Armas replaces Coral Gables lawyer Roberto "Bobby" Martinez, whose four-year term expired. Colon will serve two years remaining in the term of Dr. Akshay Desai, a St. Petersburg physician, who resigned.

Their appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate, but they can begin serving in the meantime.

Gov. Jeb Bush initially appointed Martinez in 2005. Gov. Charlie Crist initially appointed Desai and Scott reappointed him in 2011.
