Tallahassee, FL - September 26, 2012

The Agency for Health Care Administration (Agency) received a reply from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) late this afternoon regarding our response to their September 4 letter. Florida cares about kids. All medically necessary services are available to children enrolled in the State Plan Medicaid program.

Medicaid has a comprehensive medical service package that can accommodate any family who chooses to have their child at home and encourages children to be in the least restrictive setting that can best serve their needs.

“Since this issue has been brought to our attention, the State has acted swiftly to ensure that parents are aware of the service options available under the Medicaid program. In addition, we have engaged advocates, visited all skilled nursing facilities currently serving pediatric patients, and have reached out to all parents who have made the choice for their child to receive care in a skilled nursing facility. These outreach efforts were well received and we greatly appreciate all of the support and feedback from families, facilities and advocates. We continue to work toward providing the highest quality of care for Florida’s children.

“The Agency is open to meeting with DOJ to clarify their misunderstanding, and we will contact DOJ to again request the information from them that will be necessary to have a productive discussion.”
