TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The Florida Senate has passed a bill that would give Daytona International Speedway the same tax breaks as other sports facilities in the state.

The bill (SB 208), sponsored by Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange, passed 32-5 Thursday. The accompanying bill (HB 127) still needs to be approved by the House before the legislation would go to the governor.

The Speedway is in the midst of a $400 million renovation dubbed "Daytona Rising." The tax savings would lessen the hardships of the cost and the price tag is high enough to qualify for the tax break. The threshold to receive the breaks is $250 million.
