News Release: City of Valdosta
Mayor John Gayle and City Manager Larry Hanson honored Shirley Britt as the city’s January 2014 Employee of the Month at the Jan. 9 City Council meeting. Britt received a framed certificate, a check for $200 and her name appears on a plaque that is displayed inside of City Hall.
Britt is the Associate City Clerk in the City Manager and Mayor’s office and is responsible for performing administrative duties in an environment where confidentiality, professionalism and a positive attitude are of utmost importance.
Each year, the City of Valdosta hosts a holiday luncheon for its employees. This event is planned and executed by the Employee Relations Committee (ERC), in which Britt has been the Chairperson for the past two years. Britt coordinated all aspects of the luncheon, initiated a 50/50 raffle as a way for the ERC to generate funds to offset the cost of the event, and worked with local businesses to obtain donations as door prizes for city employees. Both the raffle and door prizes were great incentives that resulted in good employee attendance at the luncheon.
Events such as the holiday employee luncheon positively impact employee morale and allow city leadership to show their appreciation to the staff. The City of Valdosta applauds Shirley Britt for her dedication and for being named the January 2014 Employee of the Month.
