Man Found Guilty in Texas St. Murder

TALLAHASSEE -- A jury today found Larry Nelson guilty in the 2013 killing of Gerald Faust.

The shooting happened at the Sunrise Place Apartments on Texas Street in the middle of the afternoon back in October 2013.

Gerald Faust was killed and two other men were shot but survived.

Nelson was found guilty on all charges including first degree murder.

Nelson was sentenced to life in prison.

Larry Nelson was indicted today for killing one man and shooting two others on Texas Street October 1st..

40 year old Gerald Faust was killed.

Prosecutors say Nelson was indicted today for first degree murder and two countsof aggravated battery with a firearm.

TPD Homicide Investigators have identified Larry Nelson Jr. as a suspect in the 2525 Texas Street shooting. After consulting with the State Attorney’s Office, warrants were signed for the arrest of Mr. Nelson for 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, (2 Counts) and Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Further investigation determined Mr. Nelson fled the area and the United States Marshal’s (USMS) Florida Regional Task Force was contacted to assist in locating Mr. Nelson. On October 3, 2013, The USMS located and arrested Mr. Nelson in the Miami area, where he is currently in the Miami Dade County Jail awaiting extradition to Tallahassee to answer these charges.

The Tallahassee Police Department received a call for injured persons at 2525 Texas Street at approximately 4:30 pm on October 1, 2013.

TPD Patrol Officers responded to the area and located 3 male victims all suffering from gunshot wounds. The 3 injured men were treated on-scene and then transported to a local hospital for treatment.

One of the males later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

TPD’s Criminal Investigation Division, along with Forensic Technicians responded to the scene and assumed the primary role in the homicide investigation.

Homicide Investigators are working diligently to interview all involved and process the evidence located on scene. TPD’s Criminal Investigation Division is pursuing all leads and asks community members with information about this case to call TPD at 891-4200 or the Big Bend Crime Stoppers at 574-TIPS. Tallahassee, FL - Three people were taken to the hospital after gunfire erupted at an apartment complex on Texas Street.

The Tallahassee Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call at around 4:30 p.m. at the Sunrise Apartments. According to Officer David Northway, three people were found with gunshot wounds when officers arrived on scene.

Melvin Ford does landscaping work for the apartment complex. His crew was there when a deadly shooting happened in late June, and again on Tuesday afternoon.

"I feel threatened, I feel like it's unsafe to work here. I have more work here but it's kind of hard to send your guys in there to work under these conditions. I'm tired of it, something has to be done," said Ford.

T.P.D. could not connect the shooting to an earlier shooting on Alabama Street earlier in the day.


Around 4:27 someone called 911 regarding an injury at 2525 Texas Street. 3 people suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital.

TPD can not connect this shooting with the earlier shooting on Alabama Street. They are investigating both as separate incidents.

Police responded to the incident shortly before 5pm.

It's unclear at this time if the shooting is related to the shooting on Alabama St.
