Tallahassee, FL - The Tallahassee Professional Firefighters IAFF local 2339 gave the shopping spree of a lifetime to children. It was the annual Shop With A Firefighter event held at the Walmart on Thomasville Road. "We partner with the Children's Home Society and that gives us a chance to put some gifts underneath these kids trees this Christmas and really give them some, cheer them up," said Lt. Mike Bellamy of Tallahassee Professional Firefighters.
The hottest items on the childrens' Christmas list were definitely the toys. "Uh a Barbie house and a barbie toy," said one of the children.
This will be the second year Walmart has hosted the event and they can see many more years in the future. "Absolutely I believe that we will continue to be a partner with the firemen and to be able to continue to do this for the foreseeable future," said Greg Coggins, Walmart Store Manager.
The shopping spree was made possible through organizations like Walmart and Paul Davis Restoration. Tallahassee Professional Firefighters also holds fund raising events year-round. "We have one coming up in April a fishing tournament down at the coast a hook and ladder fishing tournament, we do a golf tournament and different things to raise money," said Lt. Bellamy.
More than a dozen firefighters helped with picking out the gifts with the children.
