Valdosta, GA - The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is searching for two men suspected of trying to run over a Georgia State Trooper with a stolen car.

The GBI says it all started when a Georgia State Trooper was attempting to stop a vehicle for speeding around 3:30 Monday morning. They say the silver Nissan led the trooper on a chase down Highway 41 and in to the Hudson Dockett area in Valdosta.

"The Trooper was trying to pull them over. They pulled in to a grassy lot off Way Street. The Trooper got out to see if he could get him out of the vehicle. At that point, it appears that they may have tried to run over the Trooper with their vehicle, and because of that, the Trooper actually shot at the vehicle multiple times", says Agent Steve Turner, with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

The GBI says after the two men attempted to run over the Trooper, they drove about a block away, where they abandoned that stolen vehicle, and took off on foot.

Neighbors at the scene say they didn't see or hear the incident because it happened so early. According to the GBI, they are looking for two African American men, but have no suspects at this time.

"We'd like to talk to these people. They may be injured. We don't know. If they are, we need to get them some help. If not, they may be out to hurt someone else. So, they don't need to be out, free on the street right now", says Agent Turner.

Agent Turner also says local hospitals are required to report all gunshot victims. If the suspects try to get medical help, the GBI will be notified.

The GBI says the Trooper is shaken up, but wasn't injured. Investigators are interviewing him to decide if he had a "justified use of force."

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says that shots were fired as part of a vehicle chase early this morning in Valdosta.

Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, a trooper attempted to stop a silver Nissan on Highway 41 when the suspects, described as two black males, took off in the vehicle.

The suspects later pulled over into an empty lot. As the trooper approached the vehicle, the suspects attempted to hit him with the car. The trooper was partially hit and then opened fire at the vehicle.

The suspects took off again, and abandoned the vehicle a few blocks away near Hudson Dockett on Fry Street. Officials believe that at least one of the suspects may have been hit by the trooper.

While the trooper was shaken up from the incident, he was uninjured.

GBI says that the car had been reported stolen and that no witnesses have come forward, likely because the incident happened so early in the morning.

GBI, Valdosta police, Georgia State Patrol and Lowndes County Sheriff's Office are currently at the scene. There is an ongoing search for the suspects.

Detours can be expected in the area.
