Tallahassee, FL - A murder suspect opens fire on local law enforcement officers. The officers fire back killing the man.

Leon County Sheriff's Deputies say they were told to be on the look out for a murder suspect, and shortly after, they spotted him.

Deputies say they, along with Florida Highway troopers, followed this red Dodge Charger on Interstate 10 just before 2:00 Monday morning.

They say when they pulled it over on the eastbound Exit 199, the man inside started shooting.

LT James McQuaig with the Leon County Sheriff's Office says, "Employees from both agencies, the Florida Highway Patrol and the Leon County Sheriff's Office, returned fire on the target vehicle.
The suspect inside the vehicle was struck."

Deputies say the suspect died at the hospital. He was wanted for murder in Panama City, Florida.

Police say the suspect was seen leaving the Courtyard Marriott on 23rd Place after a 44-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man were found with multiple gunshot wounds around 10:45 Sunday night.

Police say the crime was not random and that the suspect targeted the victims. The officers in Leon County became his target once they tracked him down.

LT McQuaig says, "That's why we have to train the way we train. That's why we have to maintain a good level of physcial fitness, of psychological fitness, and we have to be ready to respond to meet those threats as they come in, sometimes at a second's notice."

The officers involved have been put on administrative leave with pay pending the investigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is assisting in the investigation.
