Should Guns be Allowed in Church?

Updated: Mon 3:40 PM, Nov 12, 2012

Georgia - Should guns be allowed in church?

Right now it's banned in Georgia but one organization is trying to change that.

GeorgiaCarry.org is taking it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

They say it's a person's right to carry of of these in the pews. But others say is a receipe for disaster.

Georgia Carry already lost their battle at the state level and also lost at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Now they're taking it to the nations highest court, filing a 100 page petition Tuesday.

The Georgia Assembly revamped the ban in 2010. It also includes government buildings, polling places, etc.

Georgia Carry organizers say the ban violates people's religious freedoms.

Jud tanner, owner, T-3 Outdoors, stated, "if they do have a Georgia weapons carry license i believe they should. I guess each individual church should be able to decide whether or not they want to.. but i don't think the state should be able to mandate that."

Tina Bressant, Army Veteran, says, "where can we be safe at? There should be some limitations on where we can carry and where we cant carry guns."

The Supreme Court reviews only about 2 percent of all cases submitted.

The earliest the justices might look at the case would be January.

Georgia Carry's law suit actually started with a Reverend around the Macon, Georgia area who said he wanted to have a gun for protection while working in the church office.
