Siegmeister Wins Race for State Attorney in the Third Judicial Circuit

Updated: Wed 10:43 PM, Nov 07, 2012

The votes are in and the people have chosen Jeff Seigmeister as their new state attorney.

He was the republican candidate and beat out democratic opponent Bill Brannon.

Seigmeister grew up in Lake Butler, Florida and attended law school at the University of Florida.

He's worked in law enforcement and as a defense attorney.

He replaces Robert "Skip" Jarvis, current state attorney for the third judicial circuit.

Jarvis agreed not to run for re-election resulting from the investigation of claims that he misused government crime database computers.

The state attorney is charged with handling criminal cases in Florida, which decides the fate for many.

"As I've gotten older and had more life experience, not everybody deserves the maximum. I know the difference between a bad person and a bad night and I think that true justice means diverting those people from repeat criminal behavior," Siegmeister said.

The third judicial circuit is the largest in the state in number of counties, which is seven.

Siegmeister will cover Columbia, Dixie, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee, and Taylor Counties.
