Tallahassee, FL - December 15, 2012

FSU held it's commencement ceremony today where slain FSU student, Alex McDonald, was honored.

A fatal hit and run ended his life days before graduation.

McDonald was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on a busy highway in his hometown of Ocala, Florida in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day.

More than 300 close family and friends paid respect to McDonald in his candle light vigil and today his father walks across the stage to receive his son's degree in hospitality management.

His father, Will McDonald, recounts his feelings on the very special moment.

"Whether you can tell or not, I had tears coming down both sides of my face in joy. Not in sadness but in joy," said McDonald.

Now his dad will always hold his degree to remember the legacy of a son whose life was cut short.

"I'm finding out how great he is. I knew he was a good kid but unfortunately after him passing, I'm finding out what a great person he is and it just means everything in the world to me," said McDonald.
