Tallahassee, FL--"I am just excited to have him home," said Barbara Payne, mother to a deployed soldier. "It's the best Mother's Day anyone could ever have."

Barbara Payne hugged her 24-year-old son Shawn for the first time in eleven months.

Shawn is in the Florida National Guard. His unit was called to active duty at the end of 20-11 and left for Afghanistan last May

The Payne family weren't the only ones waiting at the airport. Six other families were waiting for their heroes to walk through the door.

"He has put his life on the line for his country, he has made the ultimate sacrifice," said Steve Payne, Shawn's father. "Not a lot of people are willing to do that anymore, to give up something for someone else."

Shawn Payne is a combat engineer and detects roadside bombs. His job is to detonate the explosives before the soldiers come marching down those routes. After a year overseas, Payne is thankful to be on U.S. soil.

"I am glad I am safe again, out of harms way," said Shawn Payne, a National Guard Combat Engineer.

His family is too.

"It's been a little worrisome, but God brings you through it," said Shawn's mother.

Shawn is finished with his tour overseas for now and is looking forward to spending more time with his family at home.
