The Brooks County Health Department and South Health District have been awarded a Car seat mini grant allowing them to give out some 300 car seats to families who can't afford one.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says car seats reduce the number of infant deaths in an accident by 71 percent.
At a split second lives can be lost because I believe that one time the incident occurred where he lost his life, said Cynthia Sharper. "It was felt it was OK for him to be out of the seat for that moment, but the minute he was out the accident occurred."
"It's up to us as parents and guardians to make sure that we're keeping our children safe and this is just a very easy way to keep them safe in cars," said a Valdosta Mother, Courtney Sheeley.
Officials say drivers can receive tickets if their child is not buckled properly in a car seat or is not in a child safety seat at all.

Seems ironic that these seats are for people that can't afford them, but they can afford to buy a car. Most consignment shops sell car seats. Once again the tax payers foot the bill.
