Growing the economy was the main topic for a Wednesday lunch Congressman Steve Southerland had with Tallahassee business and community leaders.
Members of a new Florida group called the "Main Street Growth and Opportunity Coalition" talked about the federal government's role in the economy.
Southerland says it's important to get input from constituents.
Leon County is one of 14 counties in the second congressional district.
"We talked about government's responsibility to create an environment that is conducive for investment and an environment that is conducive for job growth and how often times government does not create that element of certainty," Southerland said.
The Republican said his race against Democrat Gwen Graham is one of the top two or three races in the country.
The candidates have so far agreed to meet in two debates in Tallahassee this fall.
One of them will be at the Tiger Bay Club.
The other one will be at the Network of Entrepreneurs and Business Advocates or NEBA meeting.
