News Release: Lake City Police Department
On Friday, April 11th, 2014 at approximately 12:20am officers with the Lake City Police Department responded to the area of NW Jackson Ave and NW Morgan St in Lake City in response to a report of an unresponsive female subject lying in the middle of the street. Upon arrival, a female later identified as Chaquasha Shawntey Aviger (2/19/1978) was found in the roadway. Aviger had suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest, abdomen, and throat, as well as numerous cuts and lacerations to her sides and the sides of her neck.
Aviger was transported to Shands Lake Shore Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 1:23am. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, State Attorney’s Investigation Unit, and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the investigation.
Investigation identified the suspect in this stabbing as Carlis Lindsey III (11/01/1982), a 31 year old black male. Lindsey is 5’9” tall, weighs approximately 160 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes, and numerous tattoos on his back, chest, stomach, and full tattoo sleeves down both arms. He was last seen driving the victim’s rental car: a gray Hyundai Elantra displaying a Florida License Plate of 987LGQ.
An investigative task force has formed to locate Lindsey, who is currently at large. He is considered extremely dangerous and is likely armed. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of First Degree Murder.
