Tallahassee, FL - Florida Governor Rick Scott and Education Commissioner Tony Bennett sat down with school superintendents from across Florida Wednesday.

This was their quarterly meeting to discuss education issues.

Along with school safety concerns, the superintendents also expressed the need for additional school funding.

Gadsden County Schools Superintendent Reginald James says, "It's going to be a better funding year for us. So, we talked about that and how it's going to break out. We covered some other issues I think will be important for the upcoming year. But, I think all in all, it was a very productive meeting."

Commissioner Bennett says, "Having the opportunity to talk to the 67 people responsible for running the districts is a very important discussion for us to have. They give us great information about what we need to think about in terms of implementation and how implementation affects our local school districts and the students they serve."

Commissioner Bennett called the discussion of the school superintendents' support of the governor's proposal for teacher raises, "robust."

Superintendent James says the meeting was one of the best ones they've had.
