Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Memorial Hospital celebrates the new statewide residency program.
For the first time in the state of Florida, hospitals are receiving $80 million that has been set aside to graduate medical education. Governor Rick Scott helped put this in the Florida Families First Budget.
Dozens of health care professionals as well as politicians spoke about how this program is key in order to keep doctors in the state of Florida.
"Communities are getting larger," said third-year resident of TMH Marlisha Edwards. "Populations aren't slowing down in size and you're going to need medical professionals that can keep up with the care of those communities."
