TPD Closes Two Reported Hazing Cases After Finding Allegations Were Unfounded

Tallahassee, FL - On October 11, 2012, the Tallahassee Police Department was notified by Florida A & M University Police Department about a possible hazing incident involving Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity. The complaint alleged members of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity yelled and used profanity towards prospective members. Further investigation was conducted by the Tallahassee Police Departments Criminal Investigation Division. Based on the investigation, the actions reported did not meet the statutory requirements for a criminal hazing case and the case was unfounded. The information was forwarded to authorities at FAMU PD for possible violations of University rules and policies.

On October 16, 2012, TPD was notified by FAMU PD of another possible hazing related incident. This incident involved the G-Phi Step Team. This allegation involved possible late night and extended step practices resulting in sleep deprivation. Based on the investigation, the actions reported did not meet the statutory requirements for a criminal hazing case and the case was unfounded. The information was forwarded to authorities at FAMU PD for possible violations of University rules and policies.
