TPD Searching for Suspect in Attempted Burglary- SLIDESHOW

Tallahassee, Florida- August 9, 2012

Tallahassee Police swarmed a stretch of Thomasville Road this afternoon looking for a suspect in an attempted home-burglary. The break-in occured in the 1500 block of Spruce Ave., around 12:30 pm.

WCTV caught up with the victim, David Rippee, who declined an on-camera interview. Rippee had just returned home from the hospital. He smashed some bones in his hand during an altercation with the suspect and now wears a cast stretching from elbow to finger.

Ripee reports that he came home for lunch and found a man sitting at his kitchen table with a pillow case full of stolen goods. On spotting Rippee, the man swung the pillowcase and hit Rippee in the shoulder. Rippee punched him and the man ran off, leaving behind the goods.

Ripee says the man must have gotten in by the back door, because he recalled leaving the back door unlocked that morning.

Neighbors report that they’ve heard the suspect was a man who frequently walks around the area. They say they think they’ve seen him before.

Police tracked the suspected burglar for more than three hours but have not been able to catch him.

We will bring you more details as they become available.
