Tallahassee Celebrates Being Named #1 Public Utility in America

Local officials held a celebration in honor of Tallahassee being named the number one public utility in America.

The event was held at the Hopkins Power Plant on Geddie Road.

Residents were given an up and close look at how Tallahassee's utility workers and first responders.

Highlights from the day included plant tours, field demonstrations by electric line crews and fire fighters and free giveaways.

Commissioner Nancy Miller said it was a great way for families to see what it takes to provide reliable and affordable electricity.

"Every person's working doing their job, focusing on what they're supposed to do and being safe about it. We've made it 3,450 days without a lost time accident and in our industry that's pretty amazing,"

This event kicked off national public power and natural gas week.
