Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee celebrated the 'Final Pour' of a major road project today.
This afternoon officials and construction workers poured concrete into the last open ditch along Franklin Boulevard near the intersection of Tennessee Street. For years, the area has fallen victim to flash flooding during severe storms.
"This was dangerous," said Tallahassee City Commissioner Nancy Miller. "It was dangerous. It was unpredictable and every time we got a heavy rain we had a problem."
Officials say the street will be reopened for motorists in 2013. The project was paid for with the help of a $4.2 million community development block grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development .
