Tallahassee, Florida - July 30, 2012
Last week, City of Tallahassee Fire Chief Cindy Dick was named Fire Chief of the Year by the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association (FFCA) during their annual conference. The ceremony took place in Orlando, Florida and included the delegation of the FFCA which represents 2,200 fire service professionals throughout the state.
Chief Dick was selected by members of the FFCA for the award and says that she is extremely humbled and honored to be chosen by her peers. Fire Chief Rick Talbert of South Walton helped make the decision and says that the Fire Chief of the Year award is
the most important honor the Florida Fire Service can bestow upon one of its chief executives. He also adds that, “Chief Dick was an obvious choice when you look at her leadership, community service and various professional accomplishments.”
Chief Dick becomes the first female to be named Fire Chief of the Year and the second Tallahassee Fire Chief following Chief Earl Levy in 1977. Chief Dick was also elected by the FFCA to serve as 2nd Vice President of the association. Chief Dick has served as
regional director for the association for three years.
Founded in 1958, the FFCA focuses on advancing the fire and emergency services through proactive leadership, education, and advocacy. Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association programs help members maintain and develop their management and leadership skills.
