Tallahassee, FL - Today is a day set aside to pay tribute to American soldiers who have given their all.

Our nation's fallen heroes were honored all over the U.S. this Memorial Day, Including Tallahassee.

"I'm here because I want to honor the men who didn't quite make it home." Says, Harry Mulhearn.

Mulhearn is a Vietnam and Korean War Veteran. He says he was one of the lucky ones. "The men who went before me and the men who served with me all need to be honored."

Mulhearn honored those men Monday.

He was one of the hundreds who gathered in the military section of the Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee to show their gratitude for the men and women who died in battle.

Veteran David Wilson was the speaker of the hour. He says, "Much of the things that we have today were earned by the people who gave their lives in support of our country. So, it's a necessity that we remember them."

The Memorial Day ceremony was also a tribute to those soldiers who are missing.

Val Frailey with the American Legion says, "You've got to protect, you have to nurture, you have to sustain your freedom. It's not something that you can pass to your children through DNA."

It is tradition to lower the American flag at half staff from sunrise until noon on Memorial Day. The Legion concluded Monday's ceremony, by playing Taps as they raised the flag back up at 12pm.

Retired Master SGT Army National Guard James Tinsley says, "Honoring our fallen veterans is the appropriate thing to do on this holiday. Even while they're barbecuing or at the beach or whatever, they think about the people that have served for them."

The ceremony was hosted by Tallahassee's American Legion #13.

SGT 1st Class Retired Florida National Guard Alan Mitchell says, It's the remembering of those who gave their lives for our freedom. If we didn't have something like this, those people who did give their lives will be forgotten at least by generations later."
