Tallahassee, FL - A strong stance and a few loud words is all a kid might need.

"So you can keep your body safe," said first grader, Jacob Parrish.

It's all a part of the RADkids program hosted by Tallahassee Police.

It's a four day class that teaches children how to react during dangerous situations, including bullying, fire and gun safety or preventing abduction.

On the first day, Parrish had fun, but learned valuable skills.

"Blocking, kicking, punching," he said.

"It's important because they need to arm themselves with the skills and the defensive skills and the mental knowledge that they need that if something bad were to happen on the street they are ready and prepared," said Laura Gereg with the Tallahassee Police Department.

They also learned offensive moves and what to do when calling 9-1-1.

"We talk about anything from escape routes, school safety to strangers, different types of people," Gereg said.

Radkids is a national program.

Locally TPD has taught more than 180 kids on how to defend themselves.
