Tallahassee, FL-Nearly one thousand runners converged on Tallahassee Sunday in support of the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings.

They're running to raise money for the Boston Red Cross and to help the victims of the bombings.

"The finish line of a race is suppose to be a place where we feel elated and free and somebody tried to take that away from a lot of people in Boston on Monday so the message we are trying to send today is you cannot take that away from us," said Shannon Colavecchio, who helped organize the race.

The runners are finishing the last 5.2 miles of the race. It's a symbolic gesture by them as they now cross the finish line for those who couldn't .

"We're doing it for you here. Everyone across the country is doing it for you now," said runner, Nora Bertolaet.

"To everyone in Boston, hang tough. We're proud of you and we are thinking of you in Florida," said Jason Poreda who grew-up in Boston.

Nearly a thousand runners ran in the race including several who had ran in the Boston Marathon the day of the bombings.

"People of America are making a statement that we're not going to be intimidated by things like this and we are going to live like Americans in a free society," said Steve Steverson who raced in the Boston Marathon.

So far, the group has raised more than $12,000 dollars for the Boston Red Cross.
