December 17, 2012 – Sara Szeliga, Talquin Electric Education & Outreach Specialist reveals that "so far we've contributed about 30 thousand dollars in 3 years and those pennies have added up to help over 124 families."
The Talquin Assistance Program, also known as “TAP” was launched in late 2009 and has grown to over 2,100 participants, but their goal is to triple that number in 2013. TAP contributors voluntarily donate pennies each month by rounding up their utility bill to help other members who may be in a time of crisis.
Szeliga says "we have seen so many families that we've helped and especially in today's economy, how many families are in need with people that have lost their jobs or serious illness and it's just members helping members and giving back to one another in times of need.”
According to Jack Peacock, a 33 year Talquin employee, this program is year round but is especially helpful during the holiday season. He says “there are a lot of people hurting right now and what a great way for Talquin members to step up and do something as simple as completing a form and going by an office and signing up and helping your fellow cooperative owner.” By rounding up your Talquin Electric bill to the nearest dollar each month, the total contribution for the year is just under 12 dollars. Peacock encourages all Talquin customers to “go ahead and sign up now, during the holidays while your heart is in it, it's a great time to get on board. You will not miss the money, I guarantee you.”
