COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities in western Georgia have identified a teenage boy who drowned in the Chattahoochee River over the weekend.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says 14-year-old Justin Thomas died after drowning Saturday in an area of the river near Woodruff Park.
Fire Marshal Ricky Shores says witnesses told investigators that Thomas went underwater and didn't resurface Saturday afternoon.
Shores says the river's current can be unpredictable and state law requires flotation devices for swimmers and boaters.
