The Primaries Arrive In Florida

Updated: Tue 2:50 PM, Aug 14, 2012

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --- Aug. 14 2012

Tuesday marks the primary election day in Florida.

Leon County Supervisor of Election Ion Sancho says in the last two state primaries, turnout was between 17% and 22%. Leon County usually finishes higher than that state average, but Sancho says with no huge state-wide races, local candidate races will have to generate turnout rates today.

This election is the earliest primary date in 40 years. Sancho doesn't expect a very big turnout.

In-person early-voting shows a little more than eight thousand people voted in this election. That's slightly less than 2010, but higher than in 2008.

The weather has cooperated for voters heading to the polls today and so far as of 10:25 p.m. there have not been any issues reported.
