Thomasville, GA- For 92 years, hundreds of people have flocked to Thomasville's Garden Center for the annual Standard Flower Show; and this year is no exception.
"It's really something that differentiates Thomasville from other places in South Georgia. It's part of who we are," said Thomasville Mayor, Max Beverly.
"It's just a wonderful day; absolutely beautiful environment, such creativity under one roof," said Twitty Titus, a Thomasville resident who stopped by for the show Friday.
Every year organizers choose a theme to center the show around. This year, the floral designs are inspired by the theme, "On Broadway."
"It's just very fun to see how someone can take a time period, like the Roaring 20's, and then interpret a floral design around that theme," said Julia Singletary, a member of the Thomasville Garden Club and publicist for the Standard Flower Show.
The historic event is more than just flowers though. With hundreds of people expected to attend the 2 day show, organizers say, it's also a great boost to the local shops and stores, which stopped by Friday's luncheon to model some of their latest spring fashions.
"We love our downtown," said Singletary. "We want it to thrive and I think the only way we can help it thrive, is to promote it and use it and shop there."
Mayor Beverly added, "The more people we can get involved in all the various activities that go on in Thomasville, with small businesses and private organizations, the better a show like this is going to be, and the better we're all going to know each other and understand each other."
The show will be held at the Thomasville Garden Center, 1002 S. Broad St.
-Friday, March 22- 1:30 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.
-Saturday, March 23- 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
