Traffic Stop Ends in Marijuana Arrest

On May 9, 2013 at approximately 6:00pm, Midway Police Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) initiated a traffic stop on a 1997 Honda Accord with a cracked windshield and a seatbelt violation on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Midway. The Honda was driven by Zschiedriech Martin of Quincy, Florida and occupied by passenger Chavaris Lindsey of Quincy, Florida.

While beginning to take enforcement action on the traffic offenses officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver, Mr. Martin admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day and stated that he had some additional marijuana in a Newport cigarette box. Officers then initiated a vehicle inventory search where they found over 56.3 grams of marijuana and $328 in the arm rest. The passenger, Chavaris Lindsey admitted that the marijuana and money was his. The vehicle, drugs, and currency were all seized according to the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act and both subjects were placed under arrest.

Charged were:
Zschiedriech Martin B/M DOB 7/14/92:
Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams
Chavaris Lindsey B/M DOB 1/19/93:
Possession of marijuana more than 20 grams, Possession with Intent to Sell or Distribute

The suspects were transported to the Gadsden County Jail without incident.
