Travelers Felt Safer With Increased Cops on the Road

Updated: Mon 7:49 PM, Nov 26, 2012

The Thanksgiving holiday means traveling to see family for many Americans. But while some drivers were on their way to see Aunt Carol in Carolina, they probably saw an increased police presence that told them to slow down.

"That's the reason we're out there, to promote safety, reduce the number of crashes, save lives, and prevent injuries," said Lt. Jeff Frost of the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Pilot gas station in Midway saw a bunch of people who needed to gas up and go as they continued on their way home. Some saw the increased patrols up close and perosnal.

"I saw a lot of them sitting, actually, one just pulled me over, got a ticket," said Denise Houltzhousinger who was on her way back to Jacksonville.

Kimberly Yawn and her family made a quick pit stop on their way back to Oralndo. She says they always wait to come back on Monday because it makes for an easier drive.

"We've done it several years in a row, coming back on Saturday is really hard, especially down by the turnpike going through the tollbooths," said Yawn.

Both Yawn and Houlzhousinger said they were better off with the extra cops on the road.
