Two Arrested Following Fight in Madison County

Madison County, Florida- August 6, 2012

Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Saturday the 4th day of August 2012 at approximately 8:00 PM, Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a large physical altercation at 457 Boundary Street in Madison Florida. In accordance with mutual aid agreements between the City of Madison Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office, additional City Police Officers also responded to assist.

City Police Officer Cpl. Rosenburg was first to arrive on scene and identified some of the participants involved and ordered them to remain on scene to await the Sheriff’s Office deputies arrival.

One of the identified persons, Shelton Sanders, refused and attempted to flee the scene on foot and was apprehended by Cpl. Rosenburg and while Cpl. Rosenburg was attempting to handcuff Shelton Sanders, Deputy Chris Obrian arrived on scene.

Deputy Obrian observed Cpl. Rosenburg struggling with Shelton Sanders on the ground and further observed a second subject, Vincent Sanders, aggressively approaching Cpl. Rosenburg shouting obscenities and referencing what he was going to do to all the Officers.

Deputy Chris Obrian, with the assistance of other officers arriving on scene, took Vincent Sanders into custody as he repeatedly resisted and continued to fight with the Officers.

The investigation discovered that the Complainant, John Simmons, had a past altercation with the Shelton Sanders several days prior and today Shelton came back with his Brother Vincent to continue the altercation and told Simmons that they were going to beat him.

Both, Shelton and Vincent were asked to leave the gathering by the property owner, Lyndon Perry, and they refused. Witnesses present at the gathering that heard the threats immediately called 911 to report the altercation.

Shelton and Vincent Sanders were arrested and charged with the following:

Shelton Decon Sanders: B/M, DOB: 10/25/1981 of Madison, Fl. Charged: Aggravated assault on Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting with Violence, Disorderly Intoxication, and affray.

Vincent Lee Sanders: B/M, DOB: 01/25/1984 of Madison Florida, Charged: Aggravated assault on Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting with Violence, Disorderly Intoxication, and affray.
