Child Neglect Investigation Finds Drugs, Weapons Inside Home

On Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 7:20pm, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3000 block of Southshore Circle in reference to checking on the welfare of three minor children who had been left unattended. Deputies arrived and located two small children alone in a home without any adult supervision. While searching for a possible third child, deputies observed several types of illegal narcotics in different areas of the home.

Detectives from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit obtained a search warrant for the residence and seized 7 grams of crack cocaine, 3 grams of MDMA and 18 grams of Hydrocodone in addition to $1,500.00 in currency, two handguns and drug paraphernalia.

Deputies located 23 year old Santana Mitchell and 27 year old Fred Cromartie after being at the residence for more than one hour.

After conducting interviews and concluding the search of the
residence Mitchell and Cromartie were arrested and taken to the Leon County Jail.

The minor children were placed in the care of other family members.
