Most of the thefts involved items taken from unlocked vehicles with a few cars actually having windows broken out. Common items taken were cash, GPS units, and electronic items. The thefts occurred in February 2013.
Chief Brian Childress stated the resolution of this crime spree was the result of a tremendous team effort between law enforcement personnel with the Valdosta Police Department and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department.
Citizens are urged to lock their car doors whenever they exit their vehicle. This means to lock your vehicle even when it is parked at your own home. Never leave valuables including loose change, electronics, purses, wallets, briefcases, etc. in the passenger compartment of your vehicle. Either lock the items in the trunk or the best deterrent is to take these items out of your car when you arrive at your destination.
