Valdosta, GA - "It's just as pretty as I thought it was going to be, It's really hot. It's kind of stressful, but I'm excited", says Joanna Henderson.
"I just know I get to have freedom and live on my own for the first time, so I'm kind of excited", says Zachary Bradshaw.
The Freshman class of 2018... that's right... 2018 descended on the Valdosta State Campus Tuesday, and despite the heat... and some rain.. most of the students were all smiles as they packed in to Georgia Hall, but what about the parents?
"It was pretty emotional packing up last night. I've never really been away from my son for any period of time, and it's going to be tough. I'm not sure what's to come, to be honest with you", says John Whitley, father of two.
Even though this is their first child to head off to college, mom, Gennia Whitley, says she was ready.
"I've been very excited about this. I have been pushing him and pushing him to go to college, and my oldest didn't go to college, she ran off and got married, so I was so excited about going and letting him live on campus."
But not every mom could say the same, even if today wasn't their first time watching a child leave the nest.
"I'm going to be a basketcase. I hope my husband is prepared, cause we have a ride home, so I'm just going to let it all flow until I get to the car", says Valerie Williams.
VSU says around 11,200 students are enrolled on campus this year. Freshman convocation will be held Thursday at 9am in the P.E. Complex.
