Valdosta - "I'm excited, I'm happy, I'm honored. It just gives you that pat on the back saying that what you're doing is actually making a difference."
This is how JaTariya Thomas describes being suprised with the Louie Peeples White Award for outstanding community service in Lowndes County.

"I try to stay involved, I genuinely love helping people, it's a passion of mine. And I guess to be able to be recognized, for a lot of people that do a lot of things, recognition is not a big thing, you're going to do it because it needs to be done. And so I guess for someone to actually take the time to recognize me and say 'hey I see what you're doing', it means a lot."
Thomas was honored for helping local residents understand mortgages to purchase homes, for providing financial advice to the community, and also for providing free tax assistance in counties all over Georgia.
The Valdosta Civic Roundtable not only honors Mrs. White with her award, but also by decorating the entire venue with her old hats.
"Louie Peeples White was a very influencial person in our community. She was a great volunteer. We give this award every year to someone we think deserves it to honor her", says Molly Roan, President of the Valdosta Civic Roundtable.
