Valdosta, GA - Police and Firefighters, a rivalry as old as time, but Thursday the Police and Firefighters of Valdosta put those rivalries aside, for the good of the community.

The very first "Battle of the Badges - Guns vs Hoses - Blood Drive was held at City Hall.

Fire Chief Freddie Broome says, it's all about saving lives, which is what both departments do.

"I think this is a great program that we are doing for the community. It's no secret that the Red Cross has a shortage of blood, and this is an opportunity for us to come together, have a friendly competition, and in the end, have a bigger goal of helping the community by raising blood for The American Red Cross", he says.

So what's at stake in this competition? The Winners get bragging rights, a trophy, and will have their fire trucks, or police cars, washed by the losing department.
