Valdosta, GA - You can expect to see firefighters asking you to help them 'Fill The Boot' across Valdosta this weekend.
The Valdosta Fire Department kicked off its annual event today to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. VFD has partnered with the MDA for the last 60 years for the cause. Mayor John Gayle officially declared September 4th 'Fill The Boot' day.
"The fire service is always about giving back to the community. Every call we go on, we go to try and make things better. This is another way we are able to help our community and give back to try and help families and make it better for them", says Lt. Derrick Willis, with the Valdosta Fire Department.
The Valdosta Fire Department will be collecting donations now through Saturday from 3-7 each day. They will be stationed at the Wal-marts on Norman Drive and Inner Perimeter road, and all four Winn Dixie locations in Valdosta.
