-- Valdosta, Ga. -- January 25, 2013 --

17-year old Jashuna Richard is a senior at Valdosta High School. She's been belting it out since she was two years old. Singing for family and friends is one thing, but now she's got a chance to sing in front of the whole country when she appears on the hit show The Voice.

Jashuna said "I can sing and I have a talent so I might as well just use it. And if I have the opportunity, it's an open door and I'm going to walk through it."

On Thursday afternoon Jashuna passed the final round of auditions in Atlanta giving her the chance to be on The Voice. She wasn't the only one feeling the stress.

Her god parent David Griffith said "it was nerve racking. Patience. I was kind of nervous, excited. When I heard the good news I was really happy for her. I shed a tear as a matter of fact."

Valdosta High School Choral Director Ashley Cooper said "I very much see a true talent. This is my second year with her. And I've not only seen growth with her just musically but maturity level also so I'm very proud of her growth."

Jashuna beat out roughly 6,000 others to advance to the final round. The judges for this season's The Voice include Shakira and Usher among others.
