Valdosta, Ga. -- The American Veterans Post 607 in Valdosta hosted their 23rd Annual Children's Christmas Party.

Dozens of children and families came out to receive free Christmas gifts and food.

Local organizations like the valdosta fire and police stations donate items throughout the year like bicycles and toys for this day.

Organizers say it really helps the community and the children who are in need.

"Our main focus is helping out veterans within the community and also the local community itself," said Gerald Richard. "And like I said for some of these kids this may be the only type of christmas event that they have going on so we want to make sure that the community knows from the bottom of our hearts that we love and enjoy putting this on for them."

Families could also support the cause by purchasing raffle tickets to win other gifts.
