Volunteers Hold Celebration for Homeless Fathers

MIAMI -- June 17, 2012

For most dads, Father's Day is a time for celebration. But for those who are homeless, it can also be a time of heartache.

Volunteers with the Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers have been working to lift their spirits.

Fathers living in shelters in Miami, Hollywood and Pompano Beach were treated to meals, entertainment and gifts like new clothes and cologne before their big day. All the items were donated.

One resident described how the celebration helped him in the long process of reconnecting with his children after 15 years in jail.

The president of the Miami Rescue Mission says he wants homeless residents to know they are not forgotten.
