Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office deputies foiled a Panacea business burglary by arresting a 45-year-old Crawfordville man at 12:02 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, according to Sheriff Charlie Creel.
David Paul Funderburke, 45, was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, grand theft and driving while license is suspended or revoked.
Deputy Vicki Mitchell and Lt. Jimmy Sessor responded to a burglary in progress call at Mike’s Marine Supply in Panacea. The suspect was observed leaving the establishment and driving on U.S. Highway 98 toward Crawfordville.
Deputy Mitchell and Lt. Sessor conducted a traffic stop south of Medart and discovered Funderburke bleeding heavily from his right leg. WCSO contacted Wakulla EMS to treat Funderburke’s injury. The suspect told deputies that he cut himself on a boat propeller which was discovered in the back of the vehicle.
Sgt. Jeremy Johnston went to the establishment and discovered a window broken out and a brick and piece of wood used to break the window. Other similar bricks, pieces of wood, gloves and a ski mask were recovered inside the suspect vehicle.
Wakulla EMS transported Funderburke to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Upon release from the hospital, Funderburke was transported back to the Wakulla County Jail.
The 20 horsepower boat motor was returned to the owner. It is valued at $2,900. The case investigation continues. Deputy Anthony Paul also investigated.
