Wednesday Weather Update

By  |

Increasing clouds, breezy & humid conditions, warm temps. That's the start of our Wednesday and the recipe for some potentially dangerous thunderstorms this afternoon.

The cold front that is going to move through our area this afternoon/evening and it will trigger showers and storms. The intensity of the storms is the big question mark. There are enough factors in place for some bigger storms already. Any sustained sunshine would add to that potential - though it doesn't look likely that we will have much sunshine. The best chances for the biggest weather will be to our North and West - from near Dothan to the western Carolinas. Our best window for storms around here will be from near 4pm to around 9pm, starting west and spreading east. The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts, maybe more than 60mph. Isolated tornadoes are not expected, but can't be ruled out yet.

After this afternoon's excitement, clearing and cooler weather takes over. Tonight the winds shift to the northwest, and stay gusty. Lows with clearing skies are likely to fall into the 40s, and Thursday with ample sunshine will one warm a little - upper 50s for highs. Those upper 50s will feel colder because of the persistent wind. As the winds calm tomorrow night, it'll cool further for Friday morning - low 30s likely... and then a second push of cold air comes for Friday night - after highs get up over 60, lows Saturday morning likely fall below freezing.
