Associated Press Release

Haines City, FL - November 25, 2012

A woman has been charged with manslaughter after the decomposing body of her husband was found in their central Florida home.

The Lakeland Ledger reports that 56-year-old Sheree H. Peters was arrested Saturday, three weeks after her 62-year-old husband, James Peters, was last seen alive.

Polk County sheriff's detectives say Sheree Peters told others her husband was in the hospital or hunting. Detectives say relatives confronted her Friday. She told them she needed gas and left. The relatives went into the couple's Haines City home and found James Peters dead.

Sheree Peters told detectives she and her husband had argued and he was shot in a struggle over a gun. She says she offered to call an ambulance but he said no, so she went to bed.
