A new nationwide survey shows men are better than women at planning for retirement. But the findings aren't sitting well with some.
Dr. Jayne Roberts has worked at Chipola College in Marianna for more than 20 years. She's nearing retirement and said she's working hard to make sure she and her family will be financially stable.
"I feel confident that I've done everything I can do in order to put myself in the best position," said Roberts.
But according to a new survey by the group Ameriprise Financial, it appears men are outplanning women like Roberts when it comes to retiring.
The results showed more than half the men questioned were setting aside money compared to only 46% of women.
"Probably the women spend more money on their families," said Chipola Community Bank Vice President Nina Goodson.
Goodson said in general women used to work out of the home and men would be the primary bread winners, but it's not like that anymore.
"The husbands and the wives do it together. They are juggling everything and they're sharing that more," said Goodson.
Roberts thought the results were skewed as well, and questioned whether the men actually told the truth.
"I think that people try to make themselves look better than they really would be," said Roberts.
The survey consisted of 11,611 U.S. adults ages 40-75.

Well, duh! Men are still paid more in this country so they are better able to put money away.
I am a man and I buy Federal debt, t-notes, treasuries, paper....It is guaranteed not to fail.
Wow! I don't like the results, therefore, men are liars.
