Fire Destroys Storage Unit and Shuts Down Woodville Highway for 2 Hours

Tallahassee, FL-November 3, 2012

A fire destroys a electrical storage unit and shuts-down a portion of Woodville Highway for several hours Saturday.

Tallahassee Firefighters responded to a fire in the 3600 block of Woodville Highway around 5:30 p.m. A sheriff's deputy spotted the fire while driving by and called in the fire.

Woodville Highway was shutdown between Gaile Ave and Hannon Mill Road for about two hours while firefighters worked the scene.

When firefighters arrived, flames could be seen shooting out of the windows of the two-story, wooden unit. No one was inside the storage unit at the time of the fire.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze in about 30 minutes. No one was hurt.

The back of the building, both floors inside and a portion of the roof were heavily burned.

The fire department estimates there to be about $90,000 worth of damage.

The fire began inside of a storage unit that houses electrical equipment. It's unknown what started the blaze.

The Fire Department says the shed is owned by Ingram Signalization. The company is out of Pensacola. It specializes in traffic equipment and maintenance.

There were several other commerical buildings on the property. None of them were damaged.

According to County records, the entire property is owned by MAR-KED Inc.

Woodville Volunteer Firefighters, Tallahassee EMS, Tallahassee Police and City of Tallahassee Utilities also responded to the fire.

Today Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a commercial building fire on the North West corner of Hannon Mill Road and Woodville Highway.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene.

Currently Woodville Highway is closed going both directions.
