Tallahassee, FL - We pretty much do everything on our smart phones and lap top these days... So why not virtually visit your doctor as well?

Officials from Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare stopped by the Gadsden community health council to to introduce the tele-medicine program.

The program uses technology similar to Skype and Facetime and allows doctors to connect with patients through secure video conferencing.

Officials say it's especially beneficial for those living in rural parts of Florida.

Lauren Faison, Regionla Development at TMH: "It's done through computers, there's a lot of periferal cameras, we have blue tooth stethescopes which allow physicans to hear heart and lung sounds from hundreds of miles away and it really takes away that geographical barrier that keeps many people from getting the health care that they need."

As of now, TMH has an active 'teleheath' network that connects to Madison, Taylor Franklin and Leon counties.
